Mull of Kintyre

Fifteen miles across the Atlantic ocean / Irish sea is the Mull of Kintyre, a fifteen mile long peninsula, which is the closest that Scotland and Ireland get. There is a ferry crossing in the summer months from Ballycastle to Campbeltown which lies just on the far side of the Mull.
I have recently taken the ferry and although the weather was not the best it was a relaxing experience. Campbeltown is a small town not dissimilar from Ballycastle and has a few cozy hotels at which we caught a bite to eat before traveling north along the east-side of the peninsula. This route that is also most suitable for cyclists is particularly slow but most scenic with breathtaking views of the Aran Island (beautiful tranquil island I once visited many moons ago) and Ailsa Craig, the island of pure Granite.
It is also the home of the famous Sir Paul McCartney, and of course the place of inspiration for his song 'O Mull of Kintyre'.
